RICHMOND, Virginia — A special election is set for January to fill a House of Delegates seat vacated by Democrat Rosalynn Dance.

Dance was elected to the Virginia Senate in the Nov. 4 general election.

House of Delegates Speaker William J. Howell on Monday set Jan. 6 for the special election to replace Dance in the House's 63rd District.

The deadline for political parties to nominate candidates is Dec. 3.

Howell says in a news release that the special election will coincide with one scheduled the same day to fill a House seat vacated by Republican Barbara Comstock of Fairfax County.

Comstock was elected in the general election to represent Northern Virginia's 10th District in the U.S. House of Representatives.
