PHOENIX — Arizona is getting a new chief overseer for its millions of acres of land held in trust to benefits schools and other public institutions.
Gov. Doug Ducey's office on Wednesday announced his appointment of Lisa Atkins as land commissioner, a post that includes heading up the Land Department and its administration of trust land.
Atkins is currently an executive of Greater Phoenix Leadership, a business advocacy group, and she's also a member of the board that oversees the Central Arizona Project aqueduct system.
She formerly served more than 20 years as chief of staff for former Arizona Congressman Bob Stump and also was executive director of the County Supervisors Association of Arizona.
Land Department official David Trimble has been serving as interim commissioner since Commissioner Vanessa Hickman resigned in January.
