BURLINGTON, North Carolina — The city of Burlington reports about 20,000 gallons of untreated wastewater spilled into a creek over the weekend.
City spokeswoman Rachel Kelly said in a statement that the spill started around 7:45 p.m. Saturday because of a blockage caused by a grease buildup. Kelly said the overflow was stopped about two hours later.
The untreated wastewater flowed into Servis Creek.
Kelly said the city notified the Division of Water Quality at the North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources about the spill.
