CANANDAIGUA, New York — State police are investigating an accident in the Finger Lakes region of upstate New York that claimed the life of a teenage bicyclist.

Troopers say a tractor-trailer rig that was stopped at a light Friday afternoon on state routes 5-and-20 in the Town of Geneva struck and killed a 17-year-old boy after the light turned green.

The operator of the rig, 64-year-old Edward Hicks of Honesdale, Pennsylvania, made a right turn and did not see 17-year-old Jealousis Pereria, who was parallel to the truck and pedaling forward when he was hit.

Pereria, of Stanley, New York, was pronounced dead at the scene by Ontario County Corner Kevin Henderson.
