MITCHELLVILLE, Iowa — An Iowa woman serving a life sentence in prison has died.

The Iowa Department of Corrections says 47-year-old Rebecca Sue Beyer died Monday in Mitchellville. She was an inmate assigned to the Iowa Correctional Institution for Women Hospice Care Unit in Mitchellville.

Officials say Beyer died of natural causes from squamous cell carcinoma, a form of skin cancer.

Beyer was sentenced to life in prison after being convicted of first-degree kidnapping and willful injury causing serious injury in Pottawattamie County. Her sentence began July 10.
