Arizona's unemployment rate drops to 6.5 percent in February; Down slightly from January

PHOENIX — Arizona's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for February was 6.5 percent, down one-tenth of a percentage point from January.

The national unemployment rate decreased two-tenths of a percentage point to 5.5 percent in February.

The state Department of Administration says Arizona's economy gained 29,600 non-farm jobs last month with the government accounting for 15,800 of the jobs.

Across Arizona economy, nine of the 11 sectors added jobs and two sectors lost jobs in February.

Analysts say leisure and hospitality added 5,900 jobs last month with the accommodation and food services industry added 4,200 jobs.

They say trade, transportation and utilities lost 2,000 jobs in February.
