ONEONTA, New York — State police say the pilot of a small plane was taken to a central New York hospital with injuries after making an emergency landing in a cornfield.

Troopers at Oneonta received a report of a possible plane crash in the town of Milford shortly after 8 p.m. Monday. The pilot, 55-year-old Edward Schoene of Springfield Center, had developed engine trouble after taking off from the Oneonta Municipal Airport and landed the craft in a field.

Emergency responders transported Schoene to Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown. He was listed in serious condition on Tuesday.

The Federal Aviation Administration will investigate the accident.
