CUMBERLAND, Rhode Island — The Cumberland Little League team has received a big welcome home.

Hundreds of people were on hand at Diamond Hill Park Friday night when the team, escorted by state police, arrived on a flatbed trailer that had met up with the bus that brought the team back from the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

The New England Little League champions were eliminated in a heartbreaking 8-7 loss to Chicago on Monday.

Coach David Belisle told the players after the loss that they were one of the best teams in the world and they had their hometown and the state of Rhode Island jumping with excitement. His inspiring speech went viral.

The Little Leaguers are also expected to be honored before a Boston Red Sox game at Fenway Park next month.
