OCEANSIDE, California — Authorities say a biplane has crashed near a San Diego County airport but the pilot and passenger walked away with only a few scrapes.
Oceanside police say the plane went down around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday in a field about a half-mile from Oceanside Municipal Airport.
FAA spokesman Ian Gregor tells U-T San Diego (http://bit.ly/1kFo8pj) that the plane had left McClellan-Palomar Airport and the pilot planned to return there but reported engine failure during the flight and tried to divert to Oceanside.
The plane crashed and flipped upside down but didn't catch fire and nobody on the ground was hurt.
The pilot, Lance Murray, and passenger, Daniel Harabagiu, got out of the aircraft on their own.
