FARMINGTON, New Mexico — The Navajo Nation Supreme Court has dismissed a tribal leader's appeal of a lower court decision that allowed his colleagues to put him on administrative leave.

The Farmington Daily Times reported (http://bit.ly/VWkgog) Saturday that the court dismissed the appeal of Navajo Nation Council Speaker Johnny Naize on Aug. 22 because he did not file required paperwork in time.

According to the two-page ruling, the lower court record and transcripts of the proceedings were never submitted before the Aug. 18 deadline.

Naize filed the appeal July 18 in response to a Window Rock District Court judge's denial of a preliminary injunction to stop the council's actions.

The council stripped Naize of his administrative duties months after he was charged in a criminal case.

Naize says their decision denied him due process.
