PHOENIX — A man arrested in a series of armed robberies in Phoenix attributed to the so-called "calligraphy bandit" has been sentenced to 14 years in prison.
Maricopa County prosecutors say 25-year-old Tomas Garcia-Mancinas also was sentenced Friday to four years of probation.
He faced numerous felony charges stemming from robberies of pharmacies from December 2012 to February 2013.
Police say more than $10,000 worth of prescription drugs was taken in the robberies in which the robber presented handwritten notes to pharmacy employees.
Police say three weapons believed to have been used in the robberies were recovered in searches conducted after Garcia-Mancinas was arrested in early February 2013.
