GREENWOOD, Indiana — Officials say work should start soon on the building of a new Interstate 65 interchange in the southern suburbs of Indianapolis.

The state highway department has selected two contractors to build the $16 million interchange at Greenwood's Worthsville Road, about 10 miles south of I-465. The Daily Journal reports ( ) that's about $6 million less than the original estimate.

Plans had called for the new interchange to open by next summer, but delays in land purchases delayed the start of construction.

Highway department spokesman Harry Maginity says work demolishing the current bridge at the site could continue throughout the winter, with contractors starting to building the new bridge and ramps in the spring. The interchange is scheduled to open by the end of 2015.
