BARNEGAT, New Jersey — Marine police rescued a kayaker who was struggling to stay afloat in Barnegat Bay.

State Police say 51-year-old Bruce Parker of Pemberton Township lost his life jacket when a large wake capsized his kayak on Tuesday.

Police say Parker was able to retrieve his cellphone from inside the kayak and call for help.

Two state troopers pulled Parker onto their vessel and gave him dry clothes to prevent hypothermia.

He denied any medical treatment.
