BALTIMORE — A Korean-American church based in Silver Spring has won an appeal in its disputed plan for an 800-seat worship center in rural Frederick County.
The Court of Special Appeals, Maryland's second-highest court, reversed a lower-court ruling Tuesday in the case involving the Global Mission Church.
The dispute reflects opposition by neighboring property owners and environmentalists who fear the new church and related traffic would spoil the character of the area near Sugarloaf Mountain.
Tuesday's ruling reversed a 2013 Frederick County Circuit Court opinion barring the church from extending a driveway and building two retention ponds on an adjoining residential lot that it also owns.
An attorney for the plaintiffs didn't immediately return a call seeking comment on a possible further appeal.
Opponents also are challenging the church's septic-system plans.
