LAKE CHARLES, Louisiana — The Lake Charles Port Board has approved construction of a $7.2 million port administration building, with work scheduled to start in December.

The American Press reports ( ) the building will be next to the port's old administration building, which has been leased to the U.S. General Services Administration. Since September 2012, port officials have operated out of a temporary location.

Bill Rase, the port's executive director, said the 20,000-square-foot facility will have a design similar to buildings in the Walnut Grove neighborhood. He said it will feature a board room that will allow video conferences.
