SEATTLE — Authorities say a 42-year-old man charged with killing his ex-girlfriend has died of cancer at the King County Jail.

Roger Seela was charged with second-degree murder in the death last year of April Frederick, who had previously been jailed for lighting him on fire with a butane torch.

Capt. Troy Bacon of the King County Department of Adult and Juvenile Detention said Seela was found unresponsive Sunday night during a routine security check, and medical responders were unable to revive him.

The King County Medical Examiner's Office said Monday Seela had died of stomach cancer.

Frederick's body was found with significant head trauma on railroad tracks south of downtown Seattle in July 2013, but investigators determined she had not been struck by a train. Seela was arrested in April after police said DNA evidence linked him to the crime.
