METAIRIE, Louisiana — A 6-year-old girl was killed when the SUV she was riding in flipped into a canal in Metairie.
The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office says the girl's mother was driving. Thirty-two-year-old Elizabeth Braddock, of Kenner, was given CPR at the scene and taken to an area hospital. Sheriff's spokesman Col. John Fortunato says Braddock was later pronounced dead at University Hospital.
Braddock's daughter was identified as Carissa Wise.
It happened Tuesday around 1:30 p.m.
A sheriff's spokesman says many witnesses, including an off-duty firefighter, stopped to help after the vehicle crashed into the canal. Anyone with information about the accident is asked to call 911 to help investigators piece together what happened.
Despite heavy rain throughout the day, the sheriff's office couldn't confirm if the accident was due to slick roads.
