AUGUSTA, Maine — Augusta police think they know who robbed two city pharmacies earlier this week.

Acting on tips from the public, police on Wednesday arrested 21-year-old Dominic Pomerleau and detained him on a probation hold.

Deputy Chief Jared Mills says police expect to charge Pomerleau with two robberies just minutes apart on Tuesday evening.

Officers responded to the Rite Aid on Belfast Avenue at about 5:40 p.m. Tuesday for reports of an attempted robbery. Mills says a suspect showed a threatening note demanding prescription medication, but then fled on foot almost immediately and without taking anything.

About 15 minutes later, a suspect entered the Rite Aid on Hospital Street and made off with prescription medications.

It's not known if Pomerleau has a lawyer.
