COLUMBUS, Mississippi — Lowndes County school patrons were going to the polls Tuesday to decide a proposed $44 million bond issue.

Polls open at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m.

The bond issue requires approval of 60 percent of those voting.

The Commercial Dispatch reports (http://bit.ly/1QBFKOo ) the bond issue would pay for an $11 million career-technical center as well as a $26 million new high school in New Hope.

It also would provide for $3 million for upgrades and additions at the Caledonia campus; $1.9 million for a new field house at Caledonia; and $2 million for renovations on the West Lowndes campus.

The bond issue is the second phase of a total $75 million worth of improvements to the district. The first phase came without a bond issue.
