CHANHASSEN, Minnesota — The National Weather Service says a large part of southern Minnesota including the Twin Cities is in for some heavy snow from Monday morning through Tuesday afternoon.

Winter storm watches are out for Monday and Tuesday for most of southern and central Minnesota, northwestern Iowa and eastern South Dakota for a storm that could dump as much as 6 to 10 inches of snow on Minnesota. The weather service says travel conditions will be difficult. The watch area in Minnesota is south and west of a line from Benson to the Twin Cities to Albert Lea.

High temperatures are forecast in the mid-30s in the Twin Cities through Tuesday, with overnight lows from the mid-20s to low-30s.
