JONESBORO, Arkansas — The sister of a Jonesboro man who was shot to death in his home nearly three years ago says she's "shocked and relieved" that the man's wife pleaded guilty to charges in the case.

Michelle Despain pleaded guilty Friday to hindering apprehension or prosecution in the Aug. 24, 2011, shooting death of Marc Despain. Prosecutors reduced the charge from capital murder and agreed to recommend a 30-year prison sentence when Despain is sentenced on Sept. 17.

Deputy Prosecutor Mike Walden said prosecutors agreed to the deal out of concern over recent U.S. Supreme Court rulings about the admissibility of cellphone evidence that may have affected the state's case.

Jacquelyn Henley — Marc Despain's sister — told The Jonesboro Sun (http://bit.ly/1owAeB1 ) that the family wasn't expecting the guilty plea and was "shocked and relieved," with the development.
