BARTLETT, Illinois — Authorities in suburban Chicago say one person is dead after a single-engine plane crashed in a forest preserve.

Only the pilot was aboard the Cessna 172 when it crashed before 4 p.m. on Friday near the suburb of Bartlett. Authorities plan to resume their investigation on Saturday.

The DuPage County coroner's office says the victim hasn't yet been identified because next of kin hasn't been notified.

Peter Knudson is a National Transportation Safety Board spokesman. Knudson says the pilot reported a rudder control problem to air traffic controllers.

The plane was registered to the Fox Flying Club, which is based at the DuPage Airport.
