DETROIT — Can the scourge of Nain Rouge be driven from Detroit?

That's the lighthearted, whimsical mission of Le Marche du Nain Rouge. Thousands of revelers are expected to gather Sunday in the city for the free, annual event.

The Marche features masked and costumed participants taking to Detroit's streets to banish the folkloric "Nain Rouge," or "red dwarf," and save the city from its woes. The legend dates back to Detroit's earliest days as a settlement.

Neighborhood groups have been encouraged to build floats and join the procession. Winners of the best displays will receive cash prizes for community improvement projects of their choosing.
