MIAMI — A 29-year-old woman has died from injuries suffered when the 27-foot boat she was aboard was struck by a 68-foot yacht four miles off the coast of Key Biscayne.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said Sunday that Maria Del Valle was pronounced dead at Ryder Trauma Center in Miami. Two other injured people remained hospitalized.

The Coast Guard said Sunday that the accident happened late Saturday night. Officials said the injured were thrown into the water and rescued by people from the yacht.

A Coast Guard crew transported Del Valle and another passenger to Ryder, while the third was taken to another hospital.

The 21 people on the larger boat were unhurt.

The wildlife commission is investigating the crash. The Coast Guard says the Columbus Day weekend is traditionally the most dangerous of the year in Miami-area waters.
