Whiteville police, SBI investigating deadly shooting

WHITEVILLE, North Carolina — Authorities in eastern North Carolina say they have no leads in a deadly Friday night shooting.

WECT-TV in Wilmington reported Saturday (http://bit.ly/1mvZj05 ) that police in Whiteville got a call of shots fired at the Sandy Ridge Apartments late Friday. When officers got to the scene, they found the victim lying on the ground outside of an apartment building.

Columbus County assistant coroner William Hannah said 30-year-old James Lamont Frink of Chadbourn was shot multiple times in the chest and legs. Frink was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

No arrests have been made. The SBI is assisting in the investigation.
