RALEIGH, North Carolina — Health officials in North Carolina say nine more people have died from flu-related symptoms, raising the death toll for the season to 152.

The latest report continues a downward trend in the weekly reports. Since flu deaths peaked at 40 during the week ending Jan. 3, the subsequent weeks have shown a decline. Last week, 12 people died from the flu.

Of the total number of flu deaths, 125 of the victims are age 65 or older.

In another sign that the flu is on the decline, four major Triad hospitals lifted visitor restrictions on Thursday.

Local media outlets report Forsyth Medical Center, Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center and Moses Cone Hospital began their restrictions of visitors under age 18 on Dec. 29. High Point Regional Health started Dec. 26.
