ARCADIA, California — Red Outlaw improved to 6-0 with a 2 1/2-length victory in the $75,000 Uniformity Stakes for 2-year-olds on Sunday at Santa Anita.

Ridden by Edwin Maldonado, Red Outlaw ran 6 1/2 furlongs on the downhill turf course in 1:11.92 and paid $3.80, $3 and $2.40 as the 4-5 favorite.

Forever Juanito rallied wide through the stretch and returned $7.60 and $3.80.

Street Icon was another half-length back in third and paid $3.20 to show.

Red Outlaw led all the way under Maldonado, who has been aboard for four of the wins.

"He always breaks good," Maldonado said. "I knew we were going fast, but I wanted him to be by himself so I just let him roll. There's no doubt in my mind he could win the Breeders' Cup (Turf) Sprint. He's one of the best horses I've ridden here."

However, Scott Sherwood, managing partner for owner Blinkers On Racing Stable, said the Grade 2 Twilight Derby on Oct. 31 might be Red Outlaw's next start rather than the Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint on Nov. 1.

"We want to keep him winning," Sherwood said.

The victory, worth $60,900, increased Red Outlaw's career earnings to $346,100. He was scratched from the $100,000 California Flag Handicap a day earlier.

"We were dealing with a bit of a foot issue," trainer Peter Miller said. "He had a bruised foot and the extra day really helped. Feet, they get sore quick, but they heal quick sometimes, so that extra day helped."
