PHOENIX — Phoenix police say a man is dead after being struck by a vehicle early Saturday.

Police spokesman James Holmes says officers responded to a west Phoenix street around 2 a.m. where 24-year-old Isaiah Mayorquine was laying in the road.

Firefighters pronounced the victim dead at the scene.

Investigators say evidence shows Mayorquine crossed the street mid-block when he was hit by a car going southbound.

Witnesses say the driver fled in a black, older model Honda.

They say the Honda may have been engaged in illegal street racing with a sedan.

Holmes says the suspect's vehicle may have damage to the right front or side, including the side mirror.

Anyone with information is asked to call police or 480-WITNESS.
