MIAMI — Hurricane Guillermo continues to head west and is expected to begin slowing down deep in the Pacific.

The U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami said Saturday Guillermo is about 1,070 miles (1,725 kilometers) east-southeast of Hilo, Hawaii. The Category 2 hurricane had maximum sustained winds near 105 mph (165 kph).

There are currently no hazards affecting land, and no coastal watches or warnings in effect.

The center says Guillermo hasn't strengthened, with a turn to the west-northwest and a decrease in forward speed expected within the next 48 hours. Forecasters said a gradual weakening was expected to begin Saturday night.

It is moving west-northwest at 14 mph (22 kph).
