Caddo Parish schools look to fill 110 teaching positions

SHREVEPORT, Louisiana — Caddo Parish Schools are looking to fill 110 teaching positions.

The Shreveport Times reports ( ) the district recently moved 15 assistant principals back into classrooms and eight teachers were moved to different schools to help alleviate the crunch. School System spokeswoman Mary Nash-Wood says long-term substitutes also are being used to fill vacancies.

Recently, the teacher shortage has grown to include positions across all subject areas and grade levels. Nash-Wood says the district has consistently seen shortfalls in math and science but now they're seeing shortages in history, English and special education.

The help reduce the vacancies, the district participates in a mentoring program for high school students interested in teaching and it's partnering with colleges to streamline teaching certification programs for those interested in changing careers.
