CARSON CITY, Nevada — Unemployment rates are holding steady or dropping in Nevada's main metropolitan areas.

The Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation reported Tuesday that Las Vegas' jobless rate in July held steady at 7 percent compared with June. That's down a full percentage point from a year ago.

Reno-Sparks unemployment fell by one-tenth of a percentage point to 7.2 percent, while Carson City's July jobless rate also fell to 7.2 percent. Rates in both northern Nevada areas were down nearly a full percentage point year-over-year.

The statewide unemployment rate released last week was 6.8 percent in July.

State economist Bill Anderson said construction is a bright spot in the jobs market. The sector grew more than 10 percent in the past year.
