BEAUFORT, South Carolina — A consultant says a developer will likely have to close on the sale of an old South Carolina port before development plans for the property are worked out with local leaders.
The Beaufort Gazette reports (http://bit.ly/1Lb08AT ) the South Carolina Ports Authority has accepted Palmetto Alliance's more than $15 million offer for property at the old Port of Port Royal.
Consultant Whit Suber says the deal must close by the year's end and after that the developer will likely work with the town on plans.
Town council members have called on the developer to reveal plans or proposed changes for the property.
The state has struggled for years to sell the property that was once the site of a small port. There have been four failed attempts to sell the land since 2006.
