Former Kane County man sentenced to 15 years for sexual assault of underage family member

ST. CHARLES, Illinois — A former St. Charles man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for sexually assaulting a child.

The Kane County State's Attorney's office says 43-year-old Ramiro Fonseca — who now lives in Pharr, Texas — was sentenced Tuesday. He was convicted on Sept. 23 of criminal sexual assault and criminal sexual abuse.

Trial evidence showed that between July 2009 and February 2011, Fonseca had sexual intercourse multiple times with a relative under the age of 18. The incidents occurred at Fonseca's former residence in St. Charles.

The victim disclosed the incidents to a counselor after Fonseca moved to Texas.

The sentence represents six years for each sexual assault count and three years for sexual abuse. Fonseca must serve 85 percent of his sentence and register as a sex offender.
