BYRON TOWNSHIP, Michigan — Authorities say a man found dead following a fire in western Michigan was a victim of a homicide.
The Kent County Sheriff Department said an autopsy found that 50-year-old Richard Priebe was stabbed in the neck before the fire was set early Friday in Byron Township near Grand Rapids.
Sheriff's deputies saw Priebe on the floor of the home but couldn't get to him immediately because of heavy smoke and flames. The fire was put out shortly afterward by firefighters.
The cause of the fire is under investigation and no arrests have been made.
