CINCINNATI — A winter storm has brought heavy snowfall to the Cincinnati area and other parts of southern Ohio, closing schools and creating hazardous travel conditions.

Most of southern Ohio was under a winter storm warning until at least midday Thursday. The National Weather Service said some parts of the area would have up to a foot of snow accumulation.

Cincinnati Public Schools was among the districts that closed because of the weather. At least 50 outbound flights were canceled Thursday at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport in northern Kentucky, where low visibility had been a problem. Dozens more inbound flights were canceled or delayed.

Athens County in southeastern Ohio was one of several rural counties where authorities warned people to stay off the roads. Ohio University was closed for the day.
