ST. LOUIS — A federal investigation sought by St. Louis Police Chief Sam Dotson has concluded that two officers used justifiable deadly force while firing 28 shots at a man in a deadly pursuit near the Edward Jones Dome.
Twenty-five-year-old Cary Ball died after crashing his car at the end of an April 2013 police pursuit in which he was wounded 21 times. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch (bit.ly/1oL2D82 ) reports that the FBI and federal prosecutors working for U.S. Attorney Richard Callahan came to a similar conclusion as a police internal investigation.
The officers said Ball pointed a .40-caliber Glock handgun at them but did not fire. Dotson says he sought the external review because of conflicting statements by witnesses.
The incident began when police tried to stop Ball's car for a traffic violation.
