NEWPORT, Rhode Island — NBC Sports Network will provide broadcast coverage in the U.S. of the Volvo Ocean Race while Outside Television will provide broadcast and digital coverage during the nine-month race that covers 40,000 nautical miles.

The race starts Oct. 11 from Alicante, Spain, and finishes in Gothenburg, Sweden, in June.

NBCSN's coverage will feature 39 half-hour shows airing primarily in late afternoon weekend slots beginning in late October.

Outside Television will air spots every Monday at 10:30 p.m. Eastern. Coverage on will includes digital streaming of the leg starts, in-port races, news features and live look-ins with the boats.

Each of the seven race crews will have a multi-media specialist who will shoot video, interview sailors and send footage back to the race headquarters daily via satellite.

The only U.S. stopover is in Newport from May 5-17.

Among the seven race crews will be the joint U.S.-Turkish entry Team Alvimedica based in Newport, led by American skipper Charlie Enright.
