LEXINGTON, Kentucky — A woman has been killed, a man has been injured and a family of three has been displaced in a fire at a South Lexington duplex.
Lexington Fire Department Battalion Chief Mark Harvey says the duplex was in flames and there was heavy smoke when firefighters arrived Sunday evening.
Harvey says firefighters knew a person might be inside and put out the fire quickly. But the woman in the right side of the duplex was dead when firefighters found her. Her name and age have not been released.
The man who lived with her was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation.
The family of three that lived in the other side of the duplex made it out safely.
Harvey says there were no smoke detectors in either unit of the duplex.
