OCALA, Florida — Prosecutors say they won't pursue manslaughter charges against a teenager in the shooting death of his 14-year-old friend.

Instead, a judge in Ocala ruled Wednesday that the 17-year-old will be charged with possession of a firearm. The teen was arrested Oct. 29 after Daniel Harshman was shot while the boys were playing with guns in the older boy's bedroom.

The Ocala Star-Banner (http://bit.ly/1vs49ie ) reports the teen insisted the shooting was an accident.

Circuit Judge David Eddy set a Dec. 9 hearing on the gun charge.

Harshman was shot in the chest and died a short time later at the hospital.

The older teen's mother says the boys were friends who often played basketball together.
