BOILING SPRINGS, North Carolina — Tyler Strange scored 23 points with six 3-pointers as Gardner-Webb connected on 13 of 24 from long range to defeat Charleston Southern 91-81 on Thursday night.

Gardner-Webb (18-12, 10-7 Big South) opened the game with four straight baskets — including a pair of 3s by Strange and one from Jarvis Davis. The Runnin' Bulldogs, who never trailed, broke the game open with a barrage of four more 3-pointers, including three more by Strange.

Charleston Southern's Saah Nimley scored 23 points, Arlon Harper added 22 and Aaron Wheeler 19, but the Buccaneers (18-10, 12-5) couldn't keep up with the rain of 3-pointers from Gardner-Webb.

After Strange, who also had nine assists and three steals, the Runnin' Bulldogs got 18 points each from Jerome Hill and Tyrell Nelson, and 15 from Jarvis Davis.

Charleston Southern host conference-leading High Point Saturday with a chance to share the title.
