MINEOLA, New York — A Long Island man is heading to prison after he admitted he was drunk when he crashed his car, killing his lifelong friend.

Newsday reports (http://nwsdy.li/1JqAgFC ) 23-year-old Brian Friedrichs was sentenced Thursday to 4 to 12 years behind bars in the July 2014 crash that killed 23-year-old Christopher Gallina. Friedrichs pleaded guilty to manslaughter and drunken-driving charges in April.

Prosecutors say the Levittown resident was driving 120 mph when he lost control of his Mazda, flipping it several times. Both men were ejected. Prosecutors say Friedrichs blood alcohol content was .14 percent when the crash occurred. The legal limit is .08 percent.

Friedrichs says he takes full responsibility for his actions and apologized to Gallina's family.
