GARDINER, Maine — Officials say an investigation into a fire that swept through four buildings in downtown Gardiner is complete.

The Maine State Fire Marshal's Office said Monday investigators were not able to pinpoint the cause of the July 16 blaze due to the extent of the damage.

Officials say they're closing the case and listing the cause of the fire as undetermined.

The fire damaged a building on Walter Street, and three others. Investigators say it began in a second floor apartment.

Three firefighters were injured by falling bricks after a roof collapsed, and one tenant was taken to a hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.

The Portland Press Herald reports that Gerard's Pizza, the only business that closed as a result of the fire, opened its doors again on Monday.
