BLOUNTVILLE, Alabama — Authorities say a shooting involving a law officer left the suspect dead and the officer wounded.
Blount County sheriff's officials tell WBRC-TV that the shooting early Monday in the Blountville area involved a deputy from the sheriff's office.
Blount County Sheriff Loyd Arrington said the shooting happened in a field sometime between 2:30 a.m. and 3 a.m. Monday.
Arrington tells Al.com that the deputy had responded to a call at a home on Martin Road when the suspect ran, and the deputy pursued him. Few other details were immediately available early Monday morning.
The deputy was being treated at Cullman Regional Medical Center. The sheriff said the deputy's injuries are "serious, but not life-threatening.
The Alabama Bureau of Investigation is looking into the circumstances.
