BEVERLY HILLS, California — Richard Linklater has won the Golden Globe for best director for "Boyhood."
Linklater made his film over 12 years, shooting a week or so every year with the same cast. Ellar Coltrane, who plays the boy, began the project at seven years old. The film also stars Ethan Hawke and Patricia Arquette.
The other nominees were: Wes Anderson, "The Grand Budapest Hotel"; Ava DuVernay, "Selma"; David Fincher, "Gone Girl"; and Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu, "Birdman."
The 72nd annual Golden Globes are airing live from the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, with hosts Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.
