BLOOMINGTON, Illinois — A judge has denied lawyers' requests that he step aside in the trial of an Illinois teenager who prosecutors say fatally shot another teen during a game of Russian roulette.
The (Bloomington) Pantagraph reports (http://bit.ly/1uwtkOA ) jury selection began Monday as Judge Scott Drazewski refused to step aside from hearing arguments about his attendance at grand jury proceedings in the trial of 19-year-old Larron Carroll.
The state joined a request by Carroll's lawyer to have another judge consider dismissing the indictments because they say the judge shouldn't have attended the grand jury hearing in February 2013.
Drazewski says his appearance at the hearing was appropriate and didn't prejudice Carroll's case or make the indictments improper.
Carroll is accused of fatally shooting 16-year-old Kuantrae Massey in January 2013.
