JERUSALEM — Schools in the Israeli city of Tel Aviv have postponed class trips to Jerusalem because of heightened tensions in the city.

The Tel Aviv Municipality said Sunday it honored a request by parents of 8th grade pupils to postpone a trip planned for most Tel Aviv schools this week because it included visits to areas where violence recently occurred.

Last week a Palestinian drove his car into a Jerusalem train station, killing a 3-month-old girl who was a U.S. citizen and wounding eight people. The municipality said pupils were scheduled to visit a nearby site.

In recent months, clashes have erupted at Jerusalem's most sensitive holy site between Palestinian stone throwers and Israeli police. Similar clashes erupted elsewhere in east Jerusalem.
