NEW ORLEANS — The Coast Guard says it has rescued a man from a life raft 30 miles south of Southwest Pass.

Wednesday's rescue came after a crewmember aboard a vessel reported hearing a Mayday call from the sailing vessel "Amsheet."

The vessel reported that it was taking on water after striking an object and that the owner was in a life raft.

Lt. Jay Kircher, a Coast Guard pilot, said in a news release that the survivor was prepared with proper clothing, a life preserver, life raft, radio and a GPS tracker. A Coast Guard helicopter hoisted the man from the raft and took him to Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans around 7 a.m.

There were no reports of injuries.
