FAYETTEVILLE, North Carolina — Police in Fayetteville have made an arrest in the fatal shooting of a 16-year-old student at party last month.

Police tell local media outlets that 19-year-old Devontay J'Quan Douglas of Fayetteville was charged Tuesday with first-degree murder and conspiracy. His first court appearance is Wednesday. It was not immediately known if he has an attorney.

Douglas is charged in the Sept. 27 shooting death of Joseph Braxton III.

Police Chief Harold Medlock expressed frustration earlier this month that police were getting little cooperation in solving the case.

He said at the time that police felt they knew who was responsible but could not get warrants because witnesses had not come forward.
