CHARLESTON, West Virginia — State Treasurer John Perdue's office is using newspaper inserts and direct mailings this month in an attempt to locate people with unclaimed property.

The office is placing the inserts in newspapers for two weeks starting Thursday. None of the names in the inserts have been advertised before.

Examples of unclaimed property include forgotten utility deposits, a final paycheck from an employer or safety deposit box contents.

Residents who see their name in the bulletin can call (800) 642-8687 or go to http://www.wvtreasury.com to find out how to claim the property.
