Switzerland gives 1st calls to Francois Moubandje and Michael Frey for Euro 2016 qualifiers

    BERN, Switzerland — Switzerland called up defender Francois Moubandje and forward Michael Frey for the first time Friday for 2016 European Championship qualifying matches against Slovenia and San Marino.

    Switzerland coach Vladimir Petkovic also recalled winger Tranquillo Barnetta after a 2-0 home loss against England in the Group E opener.

    Petkovic left out defender Loris Benito, midfielder Fabian Frei and winger Valentin Stocker from his previous 23-player squad.

    Switzerland travels for both matches, against Slovenia on Thursday and San Marino on Oct. 14.

    Moubandje and Frey both left Switzerland in the past year to play in the French league, for Toulouse and Lille, respectively.

    Moubandje opted to represent the Swiss but he was also eligible to play for Cameroon.
